Avon rallies to beat Stafford in season opener

AVON, Dec. 16, 2025 – Senior Jude Turner stole an inbounds pass with 20 seconds remaining and scored a layup with 16 seconds left to snap a tie and help Avon beat Stafford, 52-50 in the season-opening contest for both schools.

Stafford led by six, 50-44, with 5:13 remaining but missed their final eight field goals from the floor.

Leo Indomenico, who had a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for Avon, cut the lead to four with a basket in the lane with 3:47 remaining. Off a rebound and on a fast break, Avon’s Tommy Mango scored with 1:57 left to cut the Bulldog lead to two, 50-48.

Indomenico scored in the lane off an inbounds play with 29.6 seconds to tie the game at 50-50.

Sam Stinchon got Avon off to a fast start with three 3-point field goals in the first quarter as the Falcons raced out to a 17-10 lead. He finished with 11 points while Mango and Turner had nine points each.

Stafford was led by Colin Tozier with 19 points and Bryce Graham with 10.

Avon returns to action on Saturday morning when they travel to Suffield for a 1p.m. date with the Wildcats.
