MANCHESTER, July 27 – Pitcher Dan Garafalo pitched six strong innings to help the Southington Shock win their third straight Connecticut Collegiate Baseball League championship with a 4-3 win over the Manchester Mavericks Wednesday night at East Catholic High. Kyle Naples earned the save for the Shock.
The win gives Southington (17-7) a 2-0 sweep of the best-of-3 championship series and their sixth league championship in the league’s eight-year history.
On Tuesday night, the Shock took a 1-0 lead in the series as Matt DiNello went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in a 9-3 victory over the Mavericks. Mitch Williams was 3-for-4 with a run scored while Garrett Delotto was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Greg Zullo had two hits for Southington in the win.
The Shock earned a berth in the championship game with two straight wins in the semifinals. Glastonbury won the first game in the best-of-three series, 3-1 but Southington rallied with a 2-1 decision in game two and a dominating 9-3 victory in the deciding game three.
