NORTH BRANFORD, Oct. 17 – The North Branford High football team ran for over 233 yards and three touchdowns while two Thunderbird quarterbacks combined to throw three TD passes in a 47-7 win over Avon on Friday night. 

The Thunderbirds (5-1) had a 34-0 lead before the Falcons (4-2) could get on the scoreboard with a 72-yard run by Andrew Blackmore.

North Branford’s defense was solid. They had a season-high 98 tackles including six for a loss. The Thunderbirds forced two Avon turnovers (one fumble, one interception).

Teddy Allmendinger led Avon with 89 yards rushing on 16 carries. As a team, Avon completed just three of 17 passing attempts. It’s the most lopsided loss since 2005 when Northwest Catholic beat the Falcons, 55-6. The 47 points was the most allowed in a single game by Avon since that loss to NW Catholic. Avon had won its previous four games.

Avon returns to action on Friday night when they take on Coventry/Windham Tech/Bolton at 7 p.m. in Coventry.
