Junior quarterback Kalieb Osborne threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 32 yards and two more scores to lead the UConn to a 48-20 win over Southern Miss on Saturday. The Huskies finished with 436 yards of offense, 223 in the air and 213 on the ground in the win. UConn also caused a pair of turnovers that led to points. The 28-point win marked the largest margin of victory on the road for the Huskies since a 27-point win (40-13) at UCF in 2015. The Huskies also go 1-0 on the road to open a season for the first time since 2012. Running back Cyncir Bowers ran for a career-high 84 yards on 11 carries and a score in the win. Defensively, linebacker Hayden Pegg had eight tackles while Braedyn Moore and Anas Luqman each had their first career interceptions.

Jared Thomas and Cole Messina each hit solo home runs but the Hartford Yard Goats fell to the Reading Fightin Phils 5-4 in Game 2 of the Eastern League Division Series on Thursday night at Dunkin’ Park. The Yard Goats trailed 5-3 heading to the bottom of the ninth and made it a one-run game when Messina hit a solo home run to right field. The next batter, Zach Kokoska was the potential game-tying run but he struck out which secured the game and series for the Fightin Phils.
