CANTON, Feb. 6 – The Canton girls basketball team (12-4, 7-4 NCCC) had two tough challenges last week. On Wednesday, the Warriors saw their five-game winning streak snapped in a 46-33 loss to Suffield on the road. Leading 21-17 at halftime, Canton was only able to manage 11 points in the second half.
Suffield’s Kayla Nadeau scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter while Stephanie Guminiak scored eight points, pulled down seven rebounds and had four steals for the Wildcats (9-5). Sarah Benedetti led Canton with 14 points while Megan Roux added 13.
On Friday, a 28-5 second quarter surge by No. 3 Avon lifted the undefeated Falcons to a 70-41 win. Sarah Benedetti led all scores with 23 points.
