Quick start propels Threshers past Canton

Canton’s Mike Bowes had a double and two stolen bases in Tuesday night’s loss to Thomaston.

CANTON, June 24 – Earlier this season, the Thomaston Threshers earned their first victory of the season by rallying in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Canton Crushers by one run.

On Tuesday night, the Threshers took care of business immediately. Thomaston scored 12 runs in the first three innings on four hits and five Canton errors in a 17-7 Tri-State League victory at Bowdoin Field. Will Sirotnak hit a two-run home run for the Threshers, who won their second game of the season.

Canton (0-10) had seven hits and received an RBI double from catcher Jason Cintron and a two-RBI double from Jim Spirito. Mike Bowes hit a double in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Bowes walked, stole second and third base and scored on a wild pitch. 

Outfielder Jon Scippa singled in the seventh inning to keep his five-game hitting streak alive. Chris Colon and Eric Bermudez also had singles for Canton.

The Crushers hit the road Thursday night to face Amenia, N.Y., at historic Doc Bartlett Field at 7 p.m.
