VERNON, June 22 – Canton improved to 6-2 in the Connecticut Women’s Softball League on Sunday with a sweep of winless Ellington. Canton prevailed 10-2 and 15-1.
Canton’s Liz Mutch was the league’s player of the week after week 3 when Canton swept a doubleheader from Bristol, 9-0 and 11-5. Mutch hit a home run and knocked in five runs while playing outstanding defense in the two victories. Through six games, Mutch was hitting .529 with a .882 slugging percentage.
Canton teammate Katie Donovan was the league’s player of the week following the opening week of the season in early June when Canton swept a pair from Ellington, 11-3 and 9-6 at the high school. Donovan had nine strikeouts in a complete game win over Ellington and hit. 750 in the doubleheader.
The league will announce its schedule for Sunday shortly.
