CANTON, July 20 – The Naugatuck Dogs maintained their hold on first place in the Tri-State League Sunday with a 9-1 win over the Canton Crushers.
It was the final home game of the season for the Crushers, who had two hits from Dan Huff.
Pitcher Adam Neveski went the distance on the mound for the Dogs (13-2), allowing unearned run and giving up three hits. He struck out six. For Naugatuck, Ryan Russell had a single, double and two runs scored while Kyle Murphy had a single, double and two RBI. Devin Murphy had a single, scored two runs and drove in two runs.
It was the final home game of the year for the Crushers at Bowdoin Field. Canton (1-15) will close out its inaugural season in the Tri-State League with a pair of road games.
On Wednesday, Canton travels to Bethlehem to take on the Plowboys (11-4) at Gallup Field at 6 p.m. and they close the season on Saturday at old Terryville High School at 1 p.m. to face the Black Sox (11-4).
