AVON – Town residents generously donated nearly $9,000 to current Avon High athletes and their parents during the annual Avon Booster Club ticket drive on Sunday.

“Avon takes pride in its winning athletic programs, and that was abundantly clear today,” said Maria Mascoli, president of the Avon Booster Club. We thank town residents for their continuing generosity and assure them that their money will be well-invested in Avon’s student-athletes.”

There were 112 Avon High athletes and 36 volunteer parents who canvassed area neighborhoods. The money raised on Sunday will be added to an additional $9,000 raised through a direct mail campaign earlier this summer.

The Avon Booster Club supports all the athletic teams at Avon High through purchases of equipment and gear and scholarships. They are paying for the rental of lights for next week’s Spirit Week night games at Avon High for the boys and girls soccer teams, the field hockey team and football team.

In the past, the Booster Club has paid for nets, scoreboards, mats, timers, seating, storage units and a concession shed at the football field. “It’s tough to go to an Avon High sporting event and not see the mark of our Booster Club. They support all of our teams and are an integral part of our program,” said Greg Ferry, athletic director at Avon High.
