The CIAC football committee has ruled that Dillon Stadium in Hartford is unplayable and has given Capital Prep/Achievement First until Tuesday to come up with a solution on where to play Saturday’s Class S Small Division semifinal against Canton (10-1).

The game is scheduled to be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The winner will play either North Branford or Northwest Catholic in the championship game on Dec. 12 or Dec. 13.
Capital Prep/AF (10-1) earned the No. 2 seed in Class S Small and the right to host a playoff home game. But most of the field at Dillon Stadium was covered in about a quarter inch of soft mud on Saturday when the Trailblazers beat Prince Tech, 44-0 in the regular season finale for both teams.

Capital Prep/AF coach Chris Fulton said after the game with Prince Tech Saturday that the game would be held at Dillon Stadium. A year ago, the Trailblazers earned the right to host a playoff home game but when Dillon was ruled unplayable, the game was moved to Bloomfield where the host Warhawks eliminated Capital Prep, 27-7.
Capital has until about midday on Tuesday to present an alternative to the CIAC football committee, according to committee chair Leroy Williams. If Capital doesn’t find an alternative location, the CIAC football committee will step in.
Williams hopes that a decision will be made on Tuesday on the game’s location.
Canton has a brand new synthetic turf field but cannot host a CIAC football player game because the facility doesn’t have permanent lights or a working press box. The CIAC football committee has specific rules for facilities necessary to host a football playoff game.
Northwest Catholic (10-1) is hosting its Class S Small semifinal game with North Branford (10-1) at Simsbury High. The Indians, who play on a grass field, don’t have lights at their West Hartford campus field.
