Threat postpones tournament title game

CP basketball graphicEAST LYME, Dec. 29 – Canton’s game with St. Bernard-Montville in the championship game of the East Lyme Holiday Tournament Monday night was postponed after a threatening post on social media. The New London Day reported that East Lyme superintendent of schools James Lombardo postponed the tournament Monday afternoon. 

The threat posted on the social media website Yik Yak stated “better get ready for the hail of bullets. I’ve been bullied so long after break I’m going to let all my anger out,” reported WFSB Channel 3. Connecticut State Police, the East Lyme police department and the FBI are investigating. 

Canton (5-0) was scheduled to face St. Bernard (3-2) in the championship game while Granby (2-3) was scheduled to face East Lyme (1-4) in the tournament consolation game. 

Canton coach Brian Medieros said the game will be rescheduled at a later date at a site to be determined. 

The Warriors limited Granby to just 14 points in the second half to beat Granby in the tournament semifinals on Saturday night, 47-36. St. Bernard beat East Lyme, 26-24 in the other semifinal contest on Saturday.
