Canton’s Emily Briggs had a career-high 27 points in the Class S quarterfinal win over Old Lyme Monday night.

CANTON, March 9 – Sophomore Emily Briggs had a team-high 27 points including a three-pointer and 14 rebounds to help lead the top-ranked Canton High girls basketball team into the Class S semifinals with a 63-52 victory over No. 8 Old Lyme Monday.

The Warriors (21-4) advance to the semifinals for the first time since 1999 and for just the sixth time in their history. Canton will face No. 5 Notre Dame-Fairfield (20-5) on Friday at a neutral location.

Maggie Treacy had 17 points and pair of three-point shots while Jacquie Grabowski added seven points. For Old Lyme, Abby Stone led the way with 28 points and three 3-point field goals.

Canton took control early and led by six after one period, 17-11. They extended the lead to 12 points at halftime, 31-19. Briggs’ 27 points was one shy of her career high of 28 that she had against East Lyme in January.
