AVON – Avon High’s run in the North Central Connecticut Conference isn’t quite over yet. The Falcon baseball team will be playing in the four-team NCCC Tournament on Friday at Veteran’s Field in Windsor Locks.
Avon (13-7, 11-5 NCCC) will face league co-champion Stafford (18-2, 15-1 NCCC) in the first semifinal game at 1 p.m. with Coventry (14-6, 11-5) facing league co-champion Somers (18-2, 15-1) in the second semifinal at 4 p.m. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Avon will move to the Central Connecticut Conference in September.
A year ago, Avon beat league champion Somers, 9-2 in the semifinals before falling to Suffield in the title game, 7-5. The Falcons last won the NCCC Tournament in 2011 with a 2-1 decision over Ellington.
Avon enters the postseason with two wins just in its last five games. The Falcons dropped their regular season finale on Wednesday to Wethersfield, 8-0 at Esposito Field. Bryant St. Jean, Steve Carrier, Ian McDonald and Will Boone picked up hits for the Falcons.
Five Avon pitchers combined to walk eight batters and struck out three in the loss. Zachary Rosa had a double, triple and one RBI for Wethersfield (9-11).

SOFTBALL: In the NCCC Tournament, league champion East Granby (20-0, 16-0) will host Suffield (15-5, 13-3) at 1 p.m. in one semifinal at Veteran’s Park in Windsor Locks while Ellington (14-5, 13-3) will face Granby (16-4, 13-3) in the second semifinal at 4 p.m. The championship game is at 7 p.m.
