Avon Legion drops tight game to Bristol; Enns helps Simsbury earn 11th win

BRISTOL, July 2 – It was a tough loss for the Avon American Legion baseball team Thursday night at Muzzy Field. Host Bristol scored two runs on a passed ball and an error to earn a 2-1 decision. Post 2 took the lead in the fourth inning on two hits and an error.

Meanwhile, Bristol hurler Jaeden Rasmus and reliever Noah Cruz combined to allow just five Avon hits. Avon pitcher Connor Dunn went the distance, striking out five and allowing just four hits. Brad Burney had two hits for Post 2.

Avon slips to 8-5 in the zone while Bristol improves to 14-8 on the year and 10-6 in Zone 1.  Avon returns to action Sunday when they host Wolcott (9-5) in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Avon Old Farms.

WOLCOTT, July 1 – Simsbury pitcher Chris Enns won his third game in four starts with a 9-1 decision over Wolcott on Wednesday night. Enns, a Canton High graduate, struck out 10 batters and allowed only two hits as Simsbury (11-3) remained in first place in Zone 1.

Ryan Gothers (East Granby) had a triple, single and three RBI for Simsbury while Brendan Riley had a triple and three RBI. SImsbury returns to action Monday night when they host Torrington (4-8) in a doubleheader at Memorial Field, beginning at 5 p.m.
