SIMSBURY, July 22 – Left handed pitcher Peter Myers from Canton allowed just five hits over six innings to lead the Simsbury American Legion baseball team to an 8-1 victory in game one of a best-of-3 Northern Division series Wednesday at Memorial Field.

Simsbury (22-3) can advance to the final four of the Northern Division tournament in South Windsor with a win against Bristol on Thursday at Memorial Field. If Bristol can capture a win in game two beginning at 3 p.m., the third and deciding game will be played immediately following game two.

Zone 1 champion Simsbury earned its 14th straight victory as Jake Cassano had two hits, three RBI and a run scored. Canton’s Jake Wood, East Granby’s Ryan Gothers each had RBI while Granby’s Jake King and Mike Amato of Simsbury eached two runs. Myers improves to 5-0 on the season.

For Bristol, starting pitcher Rick Lemke gave up four earned runs on seven hits in four innings of work.

The last team to beat Simsbury was Bristol in a 4-0 decision on June 29.
