
The Canton High football team had a tough time with Gilbert/Northwestern Friday night in a 29-7 defeat.
CANTON, Oct. 2 – Billy Komons ran for 151 yards and a touchdown to lead the Gilbert/Northwestern football team to a 29-7 Pequot West Division victory over Canton Friday night under portable lights at the high school.
Four different Gilbert players ran for touchdowns including Komons, Ben Schiffer, E.J. Claman and Gabriel Schwartz. Kyle Kulinski tackled a Canton runner in the end zone for a safety.
Eddie Melton gave Canton (0-4, 0-3 Pequot West) an early 7-0 lead after scoring on a 13-yard touchdown run. The Yellowjackets improve to 3-1 and 3-1 in the Pequot Conference’s Western Division.
The rain made holding onto the ball a challenge. The two teams combined to fumble the ball nine times but it only resulted one turnover by the Yellowjackets. Canton forced three Gilbert/NWR turnovers with Melton and Mekiah Davis each coming up with interceptions. Brock Steinfeldt recovered the Gilbert/NWR fumble.
Elliot Moreau led Canton defensively with five tackles, two assists, a tackle for a loss and a sack. Gilbert/NWR had 384 yards of total offense compared to 95 yards for the Warriors.
