CANTON, Oct. 3 – The Canton High girls soccer couldn’t erase two early miscues in a 2-1 loss to Coventry in the second game of the annual night soccer doubleheader at the turf field at the high school. The visiting Patriots scored two goals in the first eight minutes to take a two-goal lead.
Canton (2-4-2, 1-2-1 NCCC) battled back to cut the lead to one on a goal from Chloe Gucciardi but couldn’t get the equalizer. It’s Canton’s third one-goal defeat this season.
Canton coach Seth Korn is hopeful his team will continue to improve as the season progresses. The Warriors tied Enfield for the first time since 2008 earlier this month and the Warriors scored seven goals in a single game for just the sixth time in team history in a 7-1 victory over Hartford Classical earlier this week.
“We have a very solid team,” Korn said. “We’ve played some tough competition so far. If we can come together as a team, and I know we can, we could be in the tournament.
“We have the talent. We have the skill. We just have to come together as a team,” Korn said.
Senior Maggie Treacy has been playing well at sweeper with Devon Dalbert at stopper. Juniors Sophia Langou (3 goals), Jane Frawley (3 goals) and Devin Kadis (5 goals) have been playing well on the offensive end.
While the Warriors were thrilled to be playing under the lights, Korn was a happy man, too. On Friday, his wife, Marissa Salvo, gave birth to their first son, Cooper Jeffrey. Mother and son are healthy and fine.
Canton resumes action at East Windsor on Tuesday before coming home next Friday to host defending NCCC champion Suffield at 3:45 p.m.
