CANTON, Oct. 19 – -Grace Giancola had a hand in all five Canton goals as the Warrior field hockey snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-0 shutout win over Litchfield Monday on the turf field.
Giancola had three goals and two assists in the victory as the Warriors improved to 8-3-2 on the year. Giancola leads the team with 13 goals. Teammate Kaelyn Oliver added a goal and three assists for Canton while Elizabeth Raynor scored her second goal of the season.
Goalie Natalie Nardello made four saves in net to earn her third shutout of the season.
Canton took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Giancola off an assist from Oliver with 3:25 left in the first half. After Raynor scored off a Giancola assist for a 2-0 lead in the second half, Giancola scored twice on assists from Oliver in less than four minutes for a commanding 4-0 lead.
Canton (8-3-2, 6-2-1 NCCC) concludes its NCCC season on the road at Enfield (8-2-1, 6-2-1 NCCC) on Wednesday afternoon. The winner will finish second in the league behind NCCC champion Granby (10-1-1, 8-0-1).
The Bears won their second straight league championship last week with a 2-0 win over Canton on goals from Samantha Bates and Abby Phillips. Goalie Hanna Crose made four saves for the win. The Warriors were also shutout by Haddam-Killingworth (10-2) on Saturday, 2-0.
