FARMINGTON, Feb. 23 – The Taft Cup is staying in Avon for at least another 10 months. The Avon High boys basketball team swept the season series from rival Farmington Tuesday night with a 40-31 decision in CCC Central White play.
Avon (5-14, 2-8 CC Central White) won for the third time in the last five games, led by Bryan LaChance with 11 points and Ian McDonald with 10.
The Falcons got off to a strong start and led by 12 points after one quarter. Farmington (5-15, 1-9 CCC Central White) cut the lead to seven after three quarters but couldn’t take the lead.
The Taft Cup is the trophy awarded to the winner of games between the two teams.
Avon concludes its first season in the Central Connecticut Conference with a game against Maloney-Meriden at a time to be announced. Tuesday night’s game was postponed due to poor weather.
