Avon swimmers preparing for CCC North White championship meet on Friday

Swimming graphicWETHERSFIELD, March 2 – Avon’s Riley Strassner is the top seed in two events, Kyle Emery is the top seed in the 100-yard backstroke and two Avon relay teams are seeded No. 1 in Friday’s Central Connecticut Conference North White Division championship meet at Wethersfield High.

Strassner is the top seed in the 200-yard freestyle and 100 freestyle while Avon’s 200-yard medley relay and 400 freestyle relay are also seeded No. 1. Avon’s Maks Jaremko is seeded second in the 500 free and third in the 200 free while teammate Megan Foley is the No. 3 seed in the 100 butterfly. Emery is also a second seed in the 100 freestyle behind Strassner.

This is Avon’s first year in the CCC and their first opportunity to swim in a league championship meet since 2009 when they were in the Nutmeg Conference.

The Falcons went 11-3 on the season and 4-1 in the CCC North White Division, finishing second behind Wethersfield (7-2, 5-0 CCC North White). Wethersfield handed Avon one of their two losses this season with a 101-82 defeat in early February.

The CCC will be hosting four league championship meets — CCC North White, CCC North Blue, CCC South White and CCC South Blue.

Avon will be competing in the Class M championship trials is Saturday, March 12, at Masuk-Monroe beginning at 3:30 p.m., and the Class M championship meet at Wesleyan University in Middletown on Tuesday, March 15.
