Strassner earns top three seeds in two events for Class M meet

Swimming graphicMONROE, March 12 – Avon High senior Riley Strassner looks to be a busy swimmer Tuesday afternoon at the Class M championships at Wesleyan. Strassner has high seeds in two individual events and helped two Avon High relay teams get outstanding qualifying times.

Stassner, the two-time defending Class M champion in the 200-yard freestyle, is the No 2 seed in the 200 free behind senior Jack Doherty of Middletown. Doherty qualified with a time of 1:44.62 while Strassner was second in 1:46.55.

Strassner is the No 3 seed in the 100-yard freestyle behind Doherty (46.58) and Pomperaug junior Daniel McNamara (48.41). Strassner, who was second in the 100 free a year ago in Class M, had a qualifying time of 49.08 seconds.

Strassner was also part of Avon’s 200 medley relay team that is seeded second behind Brookfield (1:41.71). The Falcons (Kyle Emery, Sam Johnson, Strassner, Andre Richard) were just 0.01 of a second behind Brookfield with a time of 1:41.72.

Avon’s 400 freestyle relay team (Richard, Mak Jaremko, Emery, Strassner) earned the No. 8 seed with a time of 3:29.04

Two other Avon athletes earned top seeds. Junior Kyle Emery is the No. 5 seed in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.20 while diver Brendan Downey is the No. 6 seed in diving with his score of 337.95.
