Defending state champs Tolland hand Avon girls track first loss since 2012

TOLLAND, April 26 – Avon’s Carly Carpino and Carly Regalado each won two individual events but host Tolland won nine individual events and two of three relays to hand the Avon High girls track and field team their first loss in four years with a 94-57 Central Connecticut Conference victory on Tuesday.

Avon (4-1, 1-0 CCC Central White) had won 50 consecutive dual meets since 2012 when they lost to Suffield.

Carpino won the long jump and triple jump while Regalado swept the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles for the Falcons, who also captured the 4×100 relay (Shilpa Donde, Riley Abate, Carly Carpino, Gina Lindley) in 52.38 seconds. Abate also won the 100 meters while Audrey Worth captured the pole vault.

Karissa Laramie (200, 400) and Taylor Hall (shot, discus) won two individual events each for the defending Class M champion Eagles. Laramie ran on the winning 4×400 relay team. Julia Sprout won the 800 and ran on Tolland’s winning 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams.

On the boys side, Tolland beat Avon, 80-65 led by Devin Shelton, who won three individual events (200, long jump, triple jump), and Josh Bedard, who won two individual events (800, 1,600) and ran on two of the Eagle’s winning relays (4×400 and 4×800).

Avon (3-2, 1-0 CCC Central White) was led by Geoff Kirk, who swept the shot, discus and javelin, and Blake Thompson, who won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
