Track logo DSC_1740FARMINGTON, May 17 – Geoff Kirk swept the discus, javelin and shot while Andrew Suter (1,600 and 3,200 meters) and Mason Love (long jump, triple jump) won two events each to help the Avon High boys track and field team earn a 81 to 67 win over Farmington in a CCC Central White contest Tuesday at Farmington High.

On the girls side, Avon’s Ryley Higgins (800, 1,600), Kaleigh Sherman (discus, javelin), Carly Regalado (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Carly Carpino (long jump, triple jump) each won two events to beat the Indians, 102-41.

Sherman set a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 125 feet and two inches, eclipsing the old record by more than nine feet. Jane Gillis set the previous record of 116-3 feet 23 years ago at the 1993 Class M championships.

Avon’s 4×100 relay team also set a new school record with their winning time of 50.56 seconds, beating Farmington by a nose in a tough, competitive race. The team of Shilpa Donde, Gina Linley, Carpino and Riley Abate erased the record of 51.32 seconds set in 2012 by Alex Johnson, Stephanie Koo, Chamiyah Rowland and Emma Schweitzer at the Class MM championship meet.

The Avon boys improved to 4-4 on the year and 2-2 in the CCC Central White. The Avon girls improved to 6-2 on the year and 3-1 in the CCC Central White. The Falcons conclude the dual meet regular season when they host Bulkeley on Thursday.

Avon will be competing in the CCC Central championship meet next Tuesday at Simsbury. To determine a divisional champion, teams get one point for each dual meet win in the division and one point for each divisional team they beat at the CCC championship meet.
