CANTON, May 14 – The Canton High baseball team scored the game-tying run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning and won it with one out in the eighth inning as Sam Beadle drove a double into right field to lift the Warriors to a 4-3 NCCC victory over East Windsor in eight innings Saturday at Bowdoin Field.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Warriors, now 9-7 on the year and 8-6 in the NCCC. Canton is now 6-2 in one-run games this season.
Jake Schaetzel came up big for Canton. His solo home run to center field in the sixth inning cut the Panther lead to one run, 3-2. In the eighth inning, he singled to left field and scored the game-winning run on Beadle’s walk-off hit.
He also pitched two innings of shutout relief to earn his third win of the season. Schaetzel (3-3) didn’t allow a run or a walk and he struck out four.
Canton tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nate Fulham walked and moved to second on a successful sacrifice by Brandon Peters. Fulham tied the game at 3-3 on Cole Marcuccio’s single to left field.
Beadle was 3-for-4 with the game-winning RBI and a pair of doubles. Canton’s starting pitcher Ethan Burke allowed just four hits over six innings of work, fanning four and walking just two. This was Canton’s second extra-inning win over the season. The Warriors beat Granby, 8-7 in 10 innings on April 25.
