ELLINGTON, May 12 – The Ellington High girls softball remains in contention to win their first NCCC championship since 2012. The Purple Knights 10 runs in the final two innings to beat Canton, 17-2 in six innings on Thursday. Ellington (15-3, 11-2 NCCC) had seven hits to earn the win and kept pace with defending league champion East Granby (12-3, 11-2 NCCC).
Emma Ploud, Emily Ross and Sophia Pelehach had hits for Canton (2-14, 1-13 NCCC). Plourd scored Canton’s first run in the third inning on a passed ball to cut the Ellington lead to two runs, 3-1. She singled and moved to third on an error to be position to score.
In the fourth inning, Ross doubled with a hit to right field and scored on a double to left field by Pelehach.
