WINDSOR, May 10 – Windsor High’s Matt Clevland came up with two huge hits Wednesday to lift the Warriors to a 5-4 win over the Avon High baseball team in Central Connecticut Conference Central White division play.
Clevland was 3-for-4 with two RBI for Windsor (9-4, 5-1 CCC Central White), who won their third straight game. The game was tied at 4-4 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Clevland had an RBI single to left field that drove in the game-winning run.
Avon (9-5, 4-2 CCC Central White) lost their second straight game and had a three-run lead in the third inning, 4-1. But Clevland hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning to trim the lead to two runs.
In the fifth, Windsor tied the game with two-out rally. Clevland had a single to centerfield with two outs. After Jeremy Nungs walked, Clevland scored on a RBI single by Alex Rosario. Nungs scored later to tie the ballgame.
Windsor committed six errors, including three in the third inning but still was able to win.
Tied at 1-1, Avon had the bases loaded in the top of the third inning after two errors and a single by Sean Del Gallo. But Justin Olson ripped a line drive for one out and Kyle Emery was caught off third bases for the second out of the inning. A third Windsor error allowed an Avon run. Chris Jacob’s two-RBI single to right field gave Avon a 4-1 lead.
Avon’s starting pitcher Justin Olson lasted 4 2/3rd innings, striking out six and scattering seven hits. For Windsor, Alex Rosario went the distance on the mound, struck out six and allowed five hits.
Avon closes out the week by hosting Hall on Friday.

Windsor Locks 12, Canton 3
CANTON, May 10 – Windsor Locks’ Tim Pfaffenbichler was 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBI as the visiting Raiders beat the Canton High baseball team Wednesday, 12-3 at Bowdoin Field.
Pitcher Paul Koretz limited Canton to just five hits and struck out to earn the win for Windsor Locks (4-8, 3-7 NCCC). The Warriors (8-5, 7-5 NCCC) were led by Sam Beadle, who had a double. Brandon Peters pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief and struck out five.
There will no time to dwell on a second straight loss for the Warriors. Canton hosts Ellington on Thursday at Bowdoin Field followed by Saturday’s game at noon against East Windsor at Bowdoin Field.
