AVON, June 22 – It was a tough loss for the Avon American Legion baseball team on Tuesday night to rival Simsbury. A three-run disappeared after an error allowed three runs to score and tie the game. An Avon runner was thrown out at the plate in the seventh inning and Simsbury went onto win in eight innings.

Avon got right back on the winning track Wednesday night with 12 hits in a strong 9-2 victory over Torrington at Buckingham Field in Zone 1 action. Post 201 moved back into first place in the zone with Wolcott. Both teams are now 7-2.

Pitcher Chris Jacobs pitched six strong innings, scattering six hits and striking six to lead Avon and earn his second win of the season on the mound.

Sean Del Gallo, Jeremy Zarwanski, Andrew LeDuc and Brady Williamson each had two hits. Del Gallo was 2-for-2 and had three stolen bases. Avon had seven stolen bases in the game and scored twice in the fourth inning on a pair of wild pitches.

Torrington (3-8) led 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when Avon scored six runs to take command of the contest. Williamson had an RBI single to tie the game and Post 201 took the lead on a two-RBI single from Joe Suski. Later in the inning, Suski scored on an error. Del Gallo and Justin Olson scored on wild pitches as Avon grabbed a 7-2 lead.

Avon closes out a busy stretch on Thursday night when they travel to Torrington to face the P-38s for the second straight night under the lights at Fuessenich Park beginning at 7 p.m. It will be the third straight day that Avon has played. Post 201 played a doubleheader on Sunday against Wolcott for five games in five days.
