Scrappers get early jump on Canton in Tri-State League contest

Baseball ImageWOLCOTT, June 7 – Elvis Martinez had a two-run single in the second inning while teammate Ryan Soucy had three hits to lead the Wolcott Scrappers to a 5-2 win over the Canton Crushers in a Tri-State League game Tuesday night at the BAW Complex.

Wolcott hurler Mark Finkenzeller went the distance for the Scrappers, allowing six hits and striking out 10. The Crushers (0-4) committed three errors in the second inning as Wolcott turned a one-run lead into a 5-0 advantage.

Jon Scippa had two singles for the Crushers while Jake Bryant, Chris Van deBogart, Taylor Riley and Jeff Mulhall each had singles for Canton. The Crushers hit the field again on Thursday night, traveling to Deland Field to face host undefeated Watertown (4-0) for a 5:45 p.m. contest. Canton hosts the Tribury Twisters on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Bowdoin Field.
