Two Avon athletes compete at national high school track and field meet

Track logo DSC_1740GREENSBORO, N.C., June 19 – Two Avon High athletes competed at the New Balance Outdoor Track and Field national championship meet here in Greensboro.

Senior Kaleigh Sherman finished 19th in the javelin with a throw of 118 feet, 7 inches while senior Geoff Kirk was 30th in the discus with a throw of 142 feet, three inches. Sherman and Kirk are the first Avon athletes to compete at the New Balance national high school championship meet since it began in 1991.

They aren’t the first Avon track athletes to compete at the national level. In 1975, Anne Lindsay took seventh in the U.S. junior national championship meet in the discus with a throw of 134-7 feet.
