Canton field hockey moves closer to Class S tournament bid with victory

STAFFORD, Oct. 20 – Ericka Nedderman scored off an assist from Elizabeth Raynor with 13:52 left in the first half as the Canton High field hockey team continued to move closer to a berth in the CIAC Class S tournament with a 1-0 win over Stafford Thursday night.

Goalie Jessica Szczepanski made four saves to earn a piece of her third shutout of the season. It was Nedderman’s third goal of the season.

Canton (6-7, 5-2 NCCC) needs to win one of their final three games to secure a berth in the Class S tournament. The Warriors host Haddam-Killingworth on Monday at 4 p.m. at the turf field and will travel to Somers on Thursday, Oct. 27, for the final league contest of the year. With a perfect 8-0 record, Granby has clinched the NCCC championship for this fall. 

The Warriors close out the regular season by hosting Southington on Nov. 2.
