AVON, April 19 – Justin Olson and Kyle Zarwanski each hit a pair of doubles to help the Avon High baseball team win their first game of the season with an 8-1 win over RHAM on Wednesday at Buckingham Field.
Six of Avon’s seven hits were for extra bases. On the mound, Connor Harris earned the victory, scattering four hits over six innings and striking out five. He didn’t walk a batter.
In the first inning, Olson led off the game with a double, stole third base and scored on a wild pitch. Chris Jacob’s RBI groundout gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
Avon (1-2) extended its lead to 6-0 in the third inning. Olson had an RBI double, moved to third in a wild pitch and scored on an error. Will Boone had an RBI double while Jacobs drove in another run.
Kyle Zarwanski was 2-for-2 with two doubles while Olson was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Jeremy Zarwanski hit a triple while Jacobs was 1-for-3 with two RBI for Avon.
RHAM (0-4) was led by Robert Jacobsen with a double.
The Falcons will remain busy. Avon travels to Hall in West Hartford on Thursday and then faces Conard on Friday, also on the road. That will be four games in five days for the Falcons.
