
Catcher Jeremy Zarwanski hit his first home run of the season Thursday in a win over Glastonbury at Buckingham.
AVON, May 4 – Justin Olson, Jeremy Zarwanski, Ryan Ollestad and Kyle Zarwanski each had two hits and Connor Harris pitched three innings of shutout relief to lift the Avon High baseball team to an 8-4 Central Connecticut Conference win over Glastonbury Thursday at Buckingham Field.
The win was the final game of a seven-game marathon in just nine days. The Falcons went 5-2 in that seven-game stretch.
Glastonbury (6-7) had a two-run lead in the bottom of the third inning before catcher Jeremy Zarwanski (2-for-3) hit his first home run of the year to cut the lead to one run. Avon loaded the bases on consecutive singles from Will Boone and Kyle Zarwanski and a walk to Ollestad. Boone scored on an error to tie the game and Adam Theriault’s sacrifice fly gave Avon its first lead of the game, 4-3.
Avon extended its lead to two runs, 5-3, in the fourth inning on Chris Jacob’s two-out RBI single to right field.
The Falcons added four runs in the fifth inning to cement control of the contest. Ollestad had a RBI double while Olson had a RBI single. Another two runs scored on an error.
Ollestad was 2-for-2 with one RBI while Olson and Jeremy Zarwanski were 2-for-3 with one RBI. Kyle Zarwanski was also 2-for-3 at the plate.
On the mound, Olson got the start for the Falcons, going four innings and allowing eight hits. He struck out four and walked three. Harris, in relief, gave up just two hits in three innings with a strikeout and one walk.
Avon returns to action on Monday when they travel to Rocky Hill.

Granby 16, Canton 1
GRANBY, May 4 – Kyle Desjardins was 4-for-4 with two singles, a double and a home run to lead a 16-hit attack as the Granby High baseball team won their 10th game of the season with a dominating 16-1 North Central Connecticut Conference win over Canton.
Alec Morweic was 3-for-5 with two RBI while Steve Walsh was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI for the Bears (10-2, 9-2 NCCC). Parker Hansen picked up the win on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out four in five innings of work.
Canton (5-7, 5-6 NCCC) was led by Jack Mansur with a single and a triple while Nate Fulham was 2-for-3 with one RBI. James Mattson and Sam Beadle also had singles for the Warriors.
Tim Keating got the start for Canton and allowed nine runs and nine hits in three innings of work.
Canton returns home on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they host University/Classical at Bowdoin Field.
