SIMSBURY, May 15 – The Simsbury High baseball team had 12 hits and three doubles and pitcher Brandon White allowed just four hits in seven innings as the Trojans beat Avon, 6-1 at Memorial Field on Monday night.
White scattered four hits and struck out five to lead Simsbury (7-7). Tate Valerio, Griffin Myslow, Peter Phillips and Jack McNally each had two hits for the winners.
Simsbury took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off Avon starter Will Boone, now 2-3. Phillips had a RBI single while the second run scored on George Matteo’s infield ground ball.
In the fourth inning, Simsbury’s Jack Montgomery reached on an error and moved to third base on McMally’s single. Montgomery scored on a balk for a 3-0 lead. Tate Valerio’s sacrifice fly to centerfield made it 4-0.
Two errors led to Simsbury’s fifth run. Mike Gauthier doubled and moved to third base on an infield ground ball. Gauthier scored on Avon’s third error of the game for a 5-0 lead.
Avon (11-5) got on the board in the seventh inning. Adam Theriault doubled and scored after a pair of ground ball outs. Justin Olson, Jeremy Zarwanski and Mike Bornstein also had hits for the Falcons.
Avon returns to action Wednesday when they host Windsor at Buckingham Field at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Maloney in Meriden on Friday afternoon. Simsbury hosts Bristol Eastern on Tuesday at Memorial Field at 6 p.m. before hosting Southington on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
