Avon athletes honored for athletic achievements this spring

AVON, July 4 — Nine Avon High athletes earned All-State honors for their play on the field in the spring and one earned All-New England honors. Numerous athletes earned All-CCC honors.

Junior golfer Tyler Hahn earned All-State honors by finishing third with a two-under-par 70 to help Avon win its first CIAC Division II state championship since 1985. Hahn also earned All-New England honors by finishing second in New England.

Hahn’s teammates Jake Avery, who was tied for tenth at the Division II meet, and Michael Hanratty, who was tied for fifth, also earned All-State honors. Hahn and Avery earned All-State honors for the second straight year.

In baseball, senior Justin Olson earned Class L All-State honors from the Connecticut High School Coaches Association. Olson went 4-2 on the mound for the Falcons.

The Avon girls track team that finished second in Class MM had five All-State athletes — Carly Carpino, Christine Oberhausen, Madison Sides, Rhiannon Richmond and Emily Foley. Carpino won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the Class MM championships while Oberhausen, Sides, Richmond and Foley won the 4×800 relay by a second.

Oberhausen and tennis player Austin Chen were selected as the CIAC’s Scholar Athletes from Avon this school year.
