BRISTOL, July 16 – Jake Bryant, Chris Van deBogart and Taylor Riley each had three hits while veteran pitcher Jimmy Spirito pitched seven strong innings to lead the Canton Crushers baseball team to a 8-4 win over the Bristol Greeners in Tri-State League action Sunday at Bristol Central High School.

Spirito scattered eight hits and allowed just three runs to pick up his first victory of the season on the mound. Canton (5-12) had a season-high 13 hits in the game. Riley was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Bryant was 3-for-5 while Van deBogart was 3-for-4 at the plate.

Taylor Landry, Sean Bahre and Heath Cotton each had hits and RBI. Bahre had a pair of singles.

Pitcher A.J. Lorenzietti struck out eight Canton batters and took the loss as the Crushers won for the third time in the last five games.

Canton’s Chris Van deBogart had three hits in Sunday’s win over Bristol.

Earlier in the week, Terryville pitcher Billy Armstrong struck out eight and allowed just one hit in five innings of work to lead the Black Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Crushers. Pat Norton and Jake Tehan were 2-for-3 with RBI doubles for Terryville (11-6).

Riley went the distance for Canton, striking out seven and allowing nine hits. Cotton, Chris Van deBogart and Trey Van deBogart each had singles for the Crushers.

On July 9, host Amenia scored five runs in the first inning and added another three in the second inning as the Monarches raced to an early eight-run lead in a 9-3 victory at Doc Bartlett Field in Amenia, N.Y. Spirito did a good job in relief, allowing just one run and six hits over the final seven innings.

But Canton was held in check by Amenia pitcher Travis Hyatt, who scattered seven hits and struck out two in seven innings of work.

Canton concludes the 2017 campaign with a pair of games this week at Bowdoin Field. The Crushers host Litchfield on Tuesday night at 5:45 p.m. and end the season by hosting Wolcott on Sunday at 11 a.m.
