Burgos runs for three TDs but Plainville scores in final minutes to beat Falcons

Avon QB Dylan Burgos ran for three TDs but Plainville scored in the final three minutes to beat the Falcons Saturday.

AVON, Nov. 11 – Plainville quarterback Frank Griffin ran for a three-yard touchdown with 2:13 remaining to lift the visiting Blue Devils to a 28-21 victory over Avon in a CCC Division III contest Saturday, spoiling Senior Day for the host Falcons.

Griffin ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw two touchdown passes as Plainville (5-4) won their fourth straight game. Griffin hit Brady Callahan with a 55-yard touchdown pass with just two minutes gone in the game.

Avon QB Ryan Burgos ran for three touchdowns for the Falcons (3-6). He had a pair of touchdown runs that gave Avon a 14-7 lead after one quarter.

The Plainville defense forced four Avon turnovers.

“We needed our offense to play a complete game,” Plainville High coach Tim Shea told the New Britain Herald. “At times we did, at times we didn’t. We need our defense to make stops when they did, and they did. We held on. We bent, but we didn’t break and that’s kind of been our defensive mantra all year.”

The Falcons conclude the season on Tuesday, Nov. 21, when they visit Simsbury for the annual Valley Gridiron Classic. Plainville ends the season by hosting Farmington on Thanksgiving morning at 10 a.m.
