GRANBY, Jan. 3 – Coming off a triple overtime win over Canton last week, the Avon High girls basketball team kept up the momentum in the first half of Wednesday night’s game against long-time rival Granby. The Falcons gave up just one point in the first quarter and led by four at halftime.

But undefeated Granby surged in the second half to beat the Falcons, 35-25. Jalyn Brown led the way for the Bears (5-0) with 15 points while Maddee McGee added 10. Elsie Phillips had five points for Granby but pulled down 14 rebounds and had 13 blocked shots.

It was Granby’s first win over the Falcons since 2012, snapping a seven-game losing streak at the hands of the Falcons.

Avon (3-5) was led by Abby St. Onge with 10 points while Isabel Aguilar added six. The Falcons return to the court on Friday night when they host Simsbury in a CCC West Patriot contest beginning at 6:45 p.m. at the high school.
