Avon’s Abby St. Onge (31) scored 18 points to lead the Falcons to a win over Hartford Public on Thursday night.
AVON, February 1 – Abby St. Onge scored 18 points while Isabel Aquilar added 14 as the Avon High girls basketball team beat Hartford Public Thursday night, 60-30 and moved within one victory of earning an invitation to the ClAC Class L tournament.
The top 32 teams in Class L – regardless of record — will qualify for the tournament. The Falcons can secure a bid by winning their eighth game of the season.
Avon (7-9, 1-7 CCC West), who has won three of their last four games, has four games remaining in the regular season against Southington, Maloney (Feb. 6), Glastonbury (Feb. 9) and Bacon Academy (Feb. 10).
The Falcons had little trouble with Hartford Public on Thursday racing out to a 21-2 lead after one quarter and a 40-10 lead at halftime. Sophia Quilar added nine points for the Falcons while Sophie Begleiter scored six.
On Monday, Hall (13-3) sprinted out to 19-point halftime lead earlier this week in a 56-22 decision over the Falcons despite 11 points from St. Onge and seven from Aquilar.
The loss to Hall snapped a two-game winning streak for the Falcons, who had come into the game with victories over Bristol Central, 56-21, and East Catholic, 54-42.
St. Onge had a game-high 23 points for the Falcons against East Catholic with Aguilar added 19 points.
