Avon sweeps Northwest Catholic and Public Safety Academy in track & field

AVON, April 17 – Hayley Dougela won three individual events to lead the Avon High girls track and field team to a pair of victories over Northwest Catholic and Public Safety Academy from Enfield on Tuesday in the home opener for the Falcons.

Avon (2-1, 1-1 CCC West) beat Northwest Catholic, 118-32 and topped Public Safety, 139-6. Three other Avon girls won two events each. Carly Carpino swept the shot and triple jump while Molly Milligan won the 200 and 400 meters. Alison Janes captured the javelin and discus for Avon.

Rachel Martin, Caroline Luby and Jamie Rubenstein each ran on the winning 4×800 relay and 4×400 relay. Emily Foley ran on Avon’s winning 4×400 relay and captured the 800 meters.

The Avon High boys also won a pair on Tuesday, beating Northwest Catholic, 100-45 and Public Safety Academy, 126-12. Matt Nylicek (3,200 and long jump) won two events along with Thomas Howard (pole vault, 110 hurdles) and Marek Cierniewski (javelin and shot).

Zach Tilsch (200, 4×400 relay), Alvin Guo (800, 4×400) and Tyler Hinrichs (300 hurdles, 4×400) also won multiple events for the Falcons (2-1, 1-1 CCC West).

In other scores, Northwest Catholic beat Public Safety, 88-18 in the boys competition while NW Catholic topped Public Safety, 87-7 in girls action.

The Falcons return to action when they travel to Glastonbury on Tuesday, April 24 for a 3:45 p.m. meet.
