SUFFIELD, April 17 – Brandon LaClair won three individual events while Max Sparks and Peter Fuller each won a pair of individual events as the Canton High boys track and field team (4-0, 4-0 NCCC) remained undefeated with a 82-63 NCCC win over Suffield and a 117-24 victory over Windsor Locks on Tuesday.
The Canton girls, the defending NCCC co-champions with Suffield last May, had their 24-meet winning streak ended with a 91-58 loss to the host Wildcats. Canton (3-1, 3-1 NCCC) did manage to dominate Windsor Locks, 103-34 to earn their third victory of the season.
In the boys competition, LaClair just barely beat Suffield’s Alex Cotnoir in the 100 meters in a photo finish. Both runners ran a time of 12.24 seconds. LaClair also won the long jump (18-4) and javelin (123-5).
Sparks swept the 1,600 and 3,200 meters – winning the 1,600 meters by more than 11 seconds and taking the 3,200 meters by 19 seconds. Fuller swept the high jump (5-foot-6) and the triple jump (35-4).
With fewer misses, Canton’s Matthew Webb won with a leap of 7-6 while James Pelehach won the discus (106-01) and Adam Obrzut won the shot (34-3) beating teammate Collin Cleaves (32-7).
In the girls competition, Canton’s Chelsea Mitchell won four events to lead Canton. Mitchell swept the 100 and 200 meters, taking the 100 by nearly a second and winning the 200 by nearly two seconds. Mitchell also swept the long jump and triple jump. Jane Frawley (800, 3,200) won a pair of events for the Warriors.
Earlier this month, the Canton girls opened their season with a 111-22 win over Bolton and a 109-25 victory over Classical Magnet. The Canton boys swept Bolton, 95-50 and Classical, 114-22.
Canton returns to action on Tuesday when the Warriors host Ellington and Coventry at 3:30 p.m.
