East Hartford makes Simsbury pay for mistakes in tournament victory

SIMSBURY, May 30 – Mistakes caught up with the Simsbury High baseball team in Wednesday’s second round Class LL tournament game at Memorial Field.

Tied at 1-1, Simsbury committed an error and hit three batters in the top of the sixth inning as No. 9 East Hartford scored six runs to break open the game and eliminate the Trojans, 9-1. The Hornets did have four hits in the sixth inning as well.

No. 8 Simsbury (16-6) committed four errors, hit four batters, walked six and gave up five unearned runs as East Hartford snapped Simsbury’s six-game winning streak.

East Hartford took the early lead but Simsbury tied it in the bottom of the first inning. Jack Donofrio singled, stole second base and scored on Mason Valentino’s sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at 1-1.

Hornets starting pitcher Alessio Pressamarita threw a complete game, scattering five hits and striking out six, including two in the seventh inning. He walked just one batter.  Jarod Dalrymple and Axel DeJesus each had two hits for East Hartford. Dalrymple was 2-for-5 with three RBI while Mark Damaschi was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

For Simsbury, Donofrio was 2-for-3 with a double while Tate Valerio also doubled.
