Harris allows just three hits, strikes out eight as Avon slips past Bristol Central

Pitcher Conner Harris allowed just three hits, struck out eight and pitched a shutout to lead the Falcons to a 1-0 win over Bristol Central.

BRISTOL, May 16 – Senior pitcher Connor Harris allowed just three hits and struck out eight to help the Avon High baseball team beat Bristol Central, 1-0, at Muzzy Field on Wednesday. Harris, now 2-5, retired the side in five of seven innings.

Avon scored the only run it would need in the sixth inning to snap a five-game losing streak.

Tied at 0-0, Avon’s Jake Coppen singled to right field and moved to second base on a successful sacrifice bunt by Miles Borenstein. Coppen scampered to third base on a wild pitch and scored on Ryan Ollestad’s sacrifice fly to center field. Coppen had two of Avon’s three hits.

Avon’s Jake Coppen was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored the game-winning run for the Falcons.

It was the first of three consecutive games for the Falcons, who travel to Wethersfield on Thursday and host Simsbury on Friday at Buckingham Field.
