Scribner handcuffs Crushers in home opener at Bowdoin Field

Sean Bahre had a double in Canton’s 8-0 loss to Tri-Town on Thursday at Bowdoin Field.

CANTON, May 31 – Long-time Tri-Town Trojans hurler Miles Scribner had little trouble with the Canton Crushers in Thursday’s Tri-State League contest at Bowdoin Field. Scribner pitched six innings, struck out seven and allowed just four hits to lead the Trojans to an 8-0 victory in the home opener for the Crushers.

Sean Bahre had a double for Canton (0-3), now entering its fifth season in the Tri-State League. Brian Kulik had a pair of doubles while player/manager Tom Dubois also had a single. On the mound, Taylor Riley started and went six innings to drop his first decision of the season.

Tri-Town (3-0), who lost in the Tri-State League championship series to Naugatuck last August, had eight runs on 10 hits.

Sam Gardella (two RBI, home run) and Casey McDonald (two-RBI double) and Sam Shurberg each had two hits for the Trojans. Scribner picked up the win on the mound. Reliever Dan Livingston put down the side in order in the seventh inning to secure the victory.

Canton travels to Naugatuck High on Sunday to face the East Mountain Cougars (0-1) at noon.
