Walks hurt Crushers in Tri-State League loss to Wolcott, 7-1

Canton outfielder Ben Sullivan had a double and drove in one run in Thursday night’s loss to Wolcott.

WOLCOTT, May 24 – Pitcher Eric Smith threw a complete game, striking out eight and scattering six hits to lead the Wolcott Scrappers to a 7-1 Tri-State League victory over the Canton Crushers on Thursday night at BAW Field.

Wolcott (2-0) took advantage of 10 walks and two hit batters from Canton pitchers. Eric Soucy had a two-RBI single for the Scrappers while Israel Lugo and Mike Perguini each had RBI singles.

Canton’s Ben Sullivan had a first inning double and drove in a run by drawing a walk with the bases loaded in the second inning that tied the game at 1-1. Heath Cotton, Juan Bisono, Andrew Trembley, Jake Bryant and Jeff Mulhall each had singles for the Crushers.

The Crushers return to action when they host Tri-Town Trojans on Thursday, May 31, at Bowdoin Field in the home opener beginning at 5:45 p.m.
