Surging Simsbury tops Glastonbury for sixth win in last seven games

GLASTONBURY, May 2 – Jack Donofrio and Tate Valerio were each 3-for-4 as the Simsbury High baseball team won their third straight game and for the sixth time in the last seven games with a 10-6 CCC West victory over Glastonbury Wednesday.

Donofrio had a pair of singles and a home run while Valerio had two singles, a triple and four RBI for Simsbury, which improves to 7-4 on the year. Blake Chapman was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI for the Trojans, who snapped Glastonbury’s five-game winning streak.

Glastonbury (8-3) took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning but Simsbury responded with nine unanswered runs to take command of the contest. Simsbury scored four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead thanks to a two-RBI double from Chapman, a RBI single from Mason Valentino and a RBI single from Valerio.

Peter Phillips picked up the win on the mound for Simsbury, going five innings, allowing two hits and striking out five.

Simsbury hosts Avon (3-7) on Friday night at 4:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
