
SOMERS, May 1 – After getting a total of just seven hits in the last three games, the Canton High baseball team had eight hits Tuesday afternoon to snap a three-game losing streak with a 10-4 win over Somers in NCCC action.
Ryan Enns and Gavin Wood each had a double for the Warriors (4-4, 3-2 NCCC) while Jack Mansur had a triple. Nate Lincoln was 2-for-3 while Jack Rose was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Pitcher James Mattson pitched 5 2/3 innings to earn his second win of the season. He allowed five hits and struck out six.
Michael Sullivan had a RBI single in the first inning to give visiting Canton a 1-0 lead. The Warriors added five more runs in the third to take command of the contest. Leading 3-1, the Spartans (5-6) loaded the bases with three walks.
One run scored on a passed ball with Lincoln at the plate. Collin Duran scored on a wild pitch allowing Canton to extend the lead to 4-3. Jack Rose’s two-RBI single made it 5-3 and a sixth run scored on an error. Gavin Wood added a double for Canton while Jack Mansur had a triple.
The win was the second of four games for the Warriors this week. Canton dropped a 6-2 non-league decision to Litchfield on Monday at Bowdoin Field. The Warriors host HMTCA (4-6) on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Bowdoin Field and host Coventry (9-2) on Friday, May 4, at 4 p.m.
On Monday, Canton had a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-RBI double from Ryan Enns in the third inning. But Litchfield (4-6) scored five times in the fifth and added another single run in the seventh for a 6-2 lead.
Pitcher Matt Schweter was one out away from going the distance for Litchfield. He allowed just two hits and struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings of work.
