SIMSBURY, May 1 – The week is off to a great start for Simsbury High baseball player Jack Donofrio. He is 4-for-8 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI in the past two games. On Tuesday, he pitched five shutout and no-hit innings to lift the Trojans to a 6-1 win over Plainville at Memorial Field.
Donofrio started the game and pitched five innings, not allowing a hit and striking out nine. He did walk four. Plainville got on the board with a pair of singles off reliever Luke Benneche in the sixth inning.
Against the Blue Devils, Simsbury (6-4) had five extra base hits. Donofrio and Tate Valerio each had a pair of doubles while Mason Valentino also doubled.
Simsbury had a 1-0 lead and scored four unearned runs in the fourth inning thanks to a two-out RBI single from Luke Benneche, a two-RBI double from Valentino and a RBI double from Valentino.
Simsbury has won five of the last six games and two in a row. The Trojans began the week with a 6-3 win over E.O. Smith-Storrs on Monday. Donofrio led the way with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. He finished the game going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Blake Chapman had two doubles for Simsbury while teammate Tate Valerio had a double, single and one RBI.
Simsbury travels to Wethersfield (7-2) on Thursday and hosts Avon on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
