Avon Legion wins third straight in Kyle Zarwanski’s final game with Post 201

Avon’s Miles Borenstein was 3-for-3 with three RBI in Post 201’s 11-2 victory over Torrington Sunday in Zone 1 action.

TORRINGTON, June 24 – Kyle Zarwanski made his final game with the Avon American Legion baseball team a special one.

Zarwanski, who is leaving for the Air Force Academy on Tuesday, was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and a successful sacrifice bunt as he helped Avon Post 201 win their third straight Zone 1 contest in an 11-2 victory over Torrington at Fuessenich Park on Sunday.

Avon (7-2, 6-1 Zone 1) had a season-high 14 hits with Miles Borenstein going 3-for-3 with three RBI including a two-run single in the fourth inning that gave Avon their first lead of the game, 3-2. Justin Olson was 3-for-4 with a triple and one RBI while Dylan Nastri was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Catcher Jeremy Zarwanski had two singles.

Pinch hitter Connor Harris helped break the game open with a two-run home run to left center field in the fifth inning to increase the Post 201 lead to 5-2. Olson had a RBI triple in the fifth and Kyle Zarwanski scored after getting on with a single, stealing second base and scoring on Borenstein’s single to center field.

Nastri earned his first win of the season, going three inning, giving up four hits and striking out two. Harris pitched two innings of relief, allowing just one hit and fanning two. Olson and Chris Jacobs finished off the contest.

Mike Paniatti had a pair of doubles for the P-38s, who have lost four straight games including a 4-3 decision to Bristol on Friday night.

Torrington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a walk and a Paniatti double. Avon tied the game in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk but the P-38s took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on Paniatti’s second double of the day.

Avon, which dropped an 8-4 exhibition game to Branford on Saturday, returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Simsbury to face undefeated Post 84 at Memorial Field.
