Avon’s Hanratty finishes in top 10 at Junior Connecticut PGA Championship

NEW HAVEN, June 27 – Avon’s Michael Hanratty, who won the CIAC Division II championship earlier this month, finished eighth in the 43rd annual Junior Connecticut PGA Championships on Tuesday at The Course at Yale.

Hanratty shot a two-over-par 142 in the two-day event with two rounds of one-over-par 71. Hanratty had a tournament-high seven birdies in the tournament.

Xavier’s Chris Fosdick won the tournament with a four-under total of 136 with an opening day score of 71 but a 65 on Tuesday. Coginchaug’s Tyler Woodward was second with a two-day score of 139. Both qualified for the upcoming PGA of American Junior Championship on July 31-Aug. 2 in Louisville, Ky.

Six other local golfers also competed. Avon’s Tyler Hahn finished 29th with a two-day total of 154 (77-77) with his younger brother Cole Hahn one stroke back with a 155 (81-74).

Simsbury’s James Bosworth was 19th with a 148 (72-76) while Bennett Ostern (79-78) of the Weatogue section of Simsbury and John Guerrera (77-80) of Farmington both shot a 157. Avon’s Justin Flalis shot a 161 (81-80).

On the girls side, Sarah Houle of Sandy Hook section of Newtown beat two-time defending champion Angela Garvin of Feeding Hills, Mass., by eight strokes. Houle shot a 139 with Garvin shooting a 147. Both qualified for the national championship July 9-12 in Lexington, Ky.
