Avon tops Middletown for 2nd straight win in U-15 Legion state tournament

AVON, July 28 – Ben Angus and Andrew Pedersen gave up just one hit and combined to strike out four batters to lead the Avon 15-and-under American Legion baseball team to a 4-0 victory over Middletown in the state tournament at Buckingham Field.

Avon (15-7) has yet to give up a run in a pair of state tournament victories. Post 201 advances to face Ellington in Northern Division play on Sunday at 1 p.m., on the road.

Avon took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. Tyler Nyberg led off for Avon with a double and moved to second base on a single from Matt Leopold (2-3, double, two stolen bases). Leopold eventually stole second base. Both scored on a two-out flyball to right field from Dylan Love. The third run scored on an error.

In the second inning, Avon extended their lead to four runs. Leopold singled and eventually stole third bases. He scored on another error for a 4-0 lead.

Love finished with one single and two RBI while Nicolas Amatulli also had a single for Avon.
